Underground Training
MSHA 40 Hour Apprentice Underground Miner Course
Hours: MON-THU, 8AM-4PM
Prerequisite: No
Hands-on Training: Yes
Course Evaluation: No Exam
This training comprises of both classroom and practical training in our simulated mine. Prospective miners are taught a variety of skills including SCSR don and transfer, building stoppings, roof bolting, track installation. Students must bring their own steel toe metatarsal boots on the third day of class.
Certifications:
Upon completion of the course, students receive their new miner 5000-23 certificates as inexperienced red hats.

West Virginia 80 Hour Apprentice Underground Miner Course
Hours: Week 1: MON-FRI, 8AM-4PM | Week 2: MON-THU, 8AM-4PM
Prerequisite: No
Hands-on Training: Yes
Similar to the MSHA 40 Hour Underground course, this course provides prospective miners with both theoretical and practical skills needed to pass the West Virginia miner test and acquire a 5000-23 certificate as an underground inexperienced miner. The course is taught once a month. Please check out our schedules page for our upcoming 80-Hr Class.

Course Evaluation:
Students receive WV/MSHA online exams to verify competency in topics learned during training.

Certifications:
Upon completion of the course, students receive their WV Underground new miner 5000-23 certificates and their inexperienced red hat IDs .

West Virginia 40 Hour Apprentice Surface Miner Course
Hours: MON-THU, 8AM-4PM
Prerequisite: No
Hands-on Training: No
This course is entirely taught in a classroom. Students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to pass the West Virginia Surface Miner Test. At the end of the course, students are granted an MSHA 5000-23 Certificate as an inexperienced surface miner.

Course Evaluation:
Students are required to pass the WV surface test exam to verify competency in topics learned during training.

Certifications:
Upon successful completion of the course and the exam, students receive their surface new miner 5000-23 certificates and WV safety sensitive cards.

MSHA 24 Hour Apprentice Surface Miner Course
Hours: TUE-WED, 8AM-4PM
Prerequisite: No
Hands-on Training: No
In this course, prospective miners study surface mine regulations and safe work practices. Topics will include: Hazard Communication, Forklift safety, Alcohol and Substance abuse awareness, Respiratory Protection, Hearing conservation.

Certifications
Upon completion of the course, students receive their surface new miner 5000-23 certificates.

MSHA Mine Foreman/Mine Examiner Continuing Education Course
Hours: 8 Hours
Prerequisite: Must be an experienced mine foreman/fire boss
Hands-on Training: No

This training course provides experienced mine foremen the recertification to perform all duties required by State and Federal laws. The purpose of the course is to ensure experienced miners are aware of new mine laws and regulations, causes of recent fatal accidents and other various topics in the industry.

Certifications:
Certification must be renewed every 2 years.

West Virginia and MSHA Diesel and Annual Refresher Training
Hours: 8 hrs.
Prerequisite: Must have at least 6 months of underground experience.
Hands-on Training: No

This recertification course provides the instruction for the miner to continue to perform maintenance work on diesel engines in underground mines as recommended MSHA.
​
Certifications:
Certification is updated annually.
​
West Virginia and MSHA Part 48 Underground Annual Refresher Training
Hours: 8 hrs on Wednesdays.
Prerequisite: Must have at least 1 year of underground mining experience.
Hands-on Training: No
​
Experienced miners are required by federal law to receive 8 hours of annual refresher training to keep them aware of good safety practices at their operation.
​
Certifications:
Annual refresher and SCSR Training are updated upon completion of the course.
